We bought our house as a short sale and understood it to be somewhat distressed for a year. I must agree that as first-time homebuyers – it has been somewhat stressful because we thought we could deal with all the fixes it needed. And you’re right, now I wonder if we actually got a “deal” on the house – since we had to repaint the entire house (exterior/interior) replace all the old appliances, fix the fence between neighbors and now must deal with a back room that is mess and needs to be torn town completely. We would like to sell in 5 years – but are wondering where we should focus our money – in terms of fixing. A kitchen renovation? Backyard landscaping? Replacing to double-paned windows and HVAC? I feel like we were in over our heads – and would prefer not to go through this again in our next purchase.

Hi Racquel,
Thanks for your post. The questions you have are very common. In terms of where to put your dollars…it’s very difficult to say without having more details about the property in general. If you want, please feel free to email me all of the specific details about your house at bob@bredelhomes.com and I would be happy to give you my advice on where to concentrate your efforts if your end goal is to sell in five years.
Thanks,
Bob
