I wanted to make just a brief departure from the normal world of San Carlos Blog posts and wish each of you a wonderful holiday season, and nothing but the best for 2011. I am very grateful for your loyalty to the San Carlos Blog.
In the spirit of doing something different, below is a holiday riddle. Be the first person to comment on and name the location in San Carlos that is being described in the riddle, and you will win a $100 Town Gift Card. Good Luck!
UPDATE: A CORRECT ANSWER HAS BEEN SUBMITTED. IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE ANSWER REVEALED, DO NOT VIEW THE COMMENTS BELOW.
Twas the week before Christmas and all through downtown,
There was hustle and bustle without a single frown.
If it is the answer to this holiday riddle you seek,
You will need to remember San Carlos at its first peak.
He came to town with a lot on his plate,
I’ll give you a clue, it involves real estate.
Through the years it has been many things,
But focus on the man and not what it brings.
Think real hard and make the right call,
And you will be off to Town to have a ball.
All the best,
Bob

Hi Jen,
Another very good guess….but incorrect. Greg is too busy working on his pro-like golf game to be the answer here : )

The Drake Building is correct! Your GC is on the way.
Clues in the riddle:
Line 1 hints at the answer is “downtown”
Line 4, San Carlos hit its first peak when Fred Drake came to town and was the first one to successfully sell lots in town on a regular basis. After many others that failed, it was a lot on one person’s plate.
Line 6 says its involves real estate. Fred Drake’s building (located on the corner of El Camino and SC Ave) was originally his real estate office.
Line 7 says that it has been many things. This building has housed many businesses over the years, including the AT&T Wireless Store that currently uses the space.
Hence, Line 9 make the right “Call”…referring to the AT&T store.
Additionally, for regular readers of the blog, Fred Drake was featured in an article a few months ago, detailing is impact on San Carlos.
Thanks for participating!
I think you’re wrong, so I’m going with Dan Robinson.
Thanks, Bob! All of Phoebe’s studying for Treasure Hunters must have rubbed off on me.
