Hi Bob,
Thanks for taking the time to let me share a bit about our school. I did want to clarify a comment that I made that was inaccurate.
Since the school’s inception, Charter Learning Center (known as “CLC” to many of us) always gave a high preference to in-district families. This is more accurate than what I shared in the interview. Because CLC was a new school sixteen years ago, few in-district families chose it for their children. As a result, CLC had a high percentage of families coming from out of district. Over time, as CLC developed and its strong reputation developed, more and more families within San Carlos began to see the value in joining our community.
Over the last few years, we have seen a surge of interest from families within San Carlos. However, since many families choose to have their children attend all nine years, it does take time for current families to matriculate through the school.
As a charter school, we value choice for families. We embrace families from both within San Carlos as well as from our surrounding communities. We appreciate the larger sense of community that this kind of diversity can bring to CLC.
My thanks to the folks back at school who have the “institutional memory” for some of the history behind CLC!
Great job Chris! I feel it’s really important for the community at large to understand who we are and what makes us unique. It’s also important for everyone to realize that the State budget challenges have and will continue to affect us too!
Great job Chris! Nice on-point messages summarizing CLC’s value proposition as well as highlighting the impact of the state’s budget cuts on CLC’s operations (as well as what you’re planning to do about it).
Thanks Andrew,
I am glad to see that so many people took the time to listen to this. My understanding is that well over 1,000 people have downloaded the interview. I think more people now understand that we are about providing a unique service and educational opportunity for our children in the Bay Area.
All charter schools should be about providing real choice to its families in their communities just like we have choices here in San Carlos!
