West of El Camino, North of San Carlos Avenue, East of Alameda de las Pulgas and bordered in the North by Belmont, Cordes, represents the area of San Carlos which was originally built by some of San Carlos’ first residents. Hull, Phelps & Arguello, some of San Carlos’ earliest and most influential residents all called Cordes, “home”. Known for its hillside homes, great views and oversized lots, Cordes, also provides its homeowners with Arguello Park and Hillcrest Circle Park. Residents of this area of San Carlos love their neighborhood, and with good reason.
There are few negative comments about Cordes, but realtors and prospective buyers believe that the construction on these homes is older than the rest of San Carlos. With the older construction comes additional worries for prospective buyers. Also, most of the homes are build on hillsides which brings about concerns over retaining walls and drainage. Finally, some of the streets can be quite narrow.
All in all, the benefits to living in Cordes seem to substantially outweigh the burdens. The opportunity for a nice view, oversized lot and a great neighborhood feel make Cordes, The Original San Carlos, a great place to live.
